Restaurants

Maine – we’ll add more to this as we explore Maine

King Eiders Pub – Damariscotta – really like the casual atmosphere; great beer and oysters

Royal River Grill House – Yarmouth – great suggestion from my cousin – love the location

Eventide – Portland – arguably one of the best oyster bars in the US!

New York – far too many recommendations to include, but here is a start

Rafele’s – West Village – where it all began!

Babbo – yes it’s expensive, but if you splurge on one place…

Blue Hill – another splurge – can vegetables be this good?

Morandi – one of our favourite West Village Italian spots

Pil Pil – our neighborhood “go to” spot – love the vibe!

Crave Fishbar – best oyster happy hour in town!

Grand Central Oyster Bar – the granddaddy of all oyster bars!

Wolfgang’s – no, not Puck….you want steak?  This place has it!

Tavern on the Green – skip the restaurant!  Go to the outdoor bar in the back for jazz and drinks

The Boathouse – best crabcakes in town!  Try to get near the window

River Café – best view of Manhattan; wonderful food and service

Vezzo – my favourite NYC pizza – very thin crust

Mediterraneo – a close second for favourite pizza in NYC

2nd Ave Deli – forget all of the Katz’ hoopla, this is the place!

Tal Bagels – with a location right across from us, fresh bagels every weekend!

Buenos Aires – stay away from the touristy places – these are authentic!

La Paroloccia – fantastic Italian food; many locations

La Escondida – two locations, go to the one in Nunez – Parrilla that won’t break the bank

Solomia – another Nunez parrilla – portions are huge, so share!

Las Cholas – my neighborhood parrilla – beautiful at night!

La Biela – my favourite place to have a drink outside and people watch in Recoleta!

El Mirasol de la Recova – looking for a fancy parrilla?  This is the place.

Vicente – go to the one in Coughlan – off the beaten path; stick with the Italian offerings – homemade pasta! (and a great gelato place across the street!)

Freddo, Persicco, Volta – there are so many gelato shops in BA, all good!  I can never decide which is best, so try them all!

 

Places to Stay

Loire Valley Gites – a fantastic holiday rental in the Loire

Newagen Seaside Inn – gorgeous setting on Southport Island!

 

Businesses

Hope – a boutique women’s clothing store in the trendy Buenos Aires neighborhood of Belgrano; owned by my sister-in-law!

Sevenoaks Labrador Retrievers – my cousin breeds English Labrador Retrievers – raised by hand, these are the best!

Knickerbocker Group – a Boothbay based architecture, cabinetry, design, and construction services company – they do nice work!

Riverside Butcher – our local butcher in Damariscotta

Fisherman’s Catch – seafood purveyor, right next door to the butcher – very convenient
